Did You Know?

… There are important changes in product licensing that will go into effect with the release of v12.3.
These changes will ensure compliance with your software license device level count. Customers who find they have more devices in the WhatsUp Gold monitoring database than their license allows will have the option to upgrade to the necessary device level or reduce the number of devices to be monitored to the level they purchased.

…You can easily find out how many devices you are currently monitoring with WhatsUp Gold.
To determine the number of devices currently configured for WhatsUp Gold monitoring and reporting follow the instructions below:

Run the Home Workspace Report in WhatsUp Gold.
Note: The Home Workspace Report requires the WhatsUp Web Server to be running.

To launch the WhatsUp Web Server:
Select the “Configure” Menu
Click “Program Options”
Select “Web Server”
Select the box to “Enable the Web Server“
Set the “Automatically logon…” option with the username & password (admin/admin, assuming defaults)

To Run the Home Workspace Report:
Launch Web Server by selecting “Reports” then “All”
If login page displays, enter a valid username and password (admin/admin, assuming defaults)
Select “Home Workspace” Tab
Look for either of the following reports to get an accurate count of Devices (they are both located in the left hand column):

“Summary Counts” Report – See “Count” entry for Total Number of “Monitored Devices”

Example Report:

“Devices by Type Report” – See “Total” as the bottom of the report.

If you find you need to upgrade to a higher device tier to bring your software license into compliance, please visit our online shop to see all your purchasing options.

Paessler Releases White Paper on “Virtualization And Network Monitoring”

Posted on by admin in PRTG |Paessler |Webserver StressTool

, , , , ,

Server virtualization is the latest major technology trend in data centers. It provides many opportunities but is not entirely risk-free. Network monitoring can help plan the virtualization of a data center while also minimizing risks for already virtualized environments.

Dirk Paessler, CEO of Paessler AG and an expert in network monitoring has quite a bit of experience in virtualizing data centers, seeing as Paessler AG works with virtualized environments itselfs. His whitepaper provides a comprehensive overview about the opportunities and risks of virtualization and the role network monitoring plays in this context. A great help for administrators and IT executives.

You can download a copy of this white paper by going to:

http://www.paessler.com/content/e2030/e1895/e3863/e2572/ServerVirtualization_eng.pdf

Paessler offers two applications that form a complete network monitoring suite for small-to-medium businesses and is used by large and very large enterprises to provide more detailed visibility into critical
parts of their networks.

Paessler has re-architected all its tools recently, putting them on the optimal technological base and improving their overall functionality, efficiency and usability.

Its tool suite consists of:

PRTG Network Monitor is an easy-to-use Windows application for monitoring and classifying bandwidth usage and for monitoring network uptime/downtime.  It provides live readings and long-term usage trends for network devices. PRTG makes early detection of network and website problems easy and affordable. It helps organizations monitor critical network resources and detect systems failures or performance problems immediately, minimizing downtime and its economic impact. SNMP Helper enables PRTG Network Monitor to collect detailed performance information on Windows servers and workstations.  Up to several thousand parameters and performance counters on a PC can be monitored with just a few mouse clicks.

Webserver Stress Tool is a powerful HTTP-client/server test application designed to pinpoint critical performance issues on a Web site or Web server that may obstruct delivery of an optimal user experience. By simulating simultaneous access by hundreds or thousands of simultaneous users, it tests Web server performance under normal and extreme loads to ensure that critical information and service are available at response times that users expect. All of these tools come in various editions, and include a free edition to allow users to try out their main features before making the purchase decision.
