A10 Networks® announced earlier this year the results of two independent performance tests conducted by The Tolly Group, which evaluate A10’s AX Series Advanced Traffic Managers using the same methodology as F5’s publicly available 2007 performance report. In the first test, The Tolly Group evaluated the AX 3200’s performance and in the second test evaluated the AX 2100 versus F5’s BIG-IP 3400. The AX Series is a next-generation server load balancer that won Best of Interop Las Vegas and Best of Interop Tokyo 2007, beating the competition based on its Advanced Core Operating System (ACOS) with multi-core CPU architecture. With models for all size enterprises and service providers, the AX Series allows applications to perform as desired, especially during peak usage conditions and while leveraging multiple advanced features.

The AX 3200 is a 10G server load balancer designed for enterprises, ISPs and carriers. Here are the highlights of the AX 3200 performance test:
- - Scales Layer 7 performance to more than 1.5 million transactions per second (TPS)
- - Exhibits over 540,000 Layer 4 connections per second (CPS)
- - Supports over 9 million SYN cookies per second
- - Over double the performance at less than half the price of incumbents
The AX 2100 is a server load balancer designed for small/medium businesses and enterprises. Here are the highlights for the AX 2100 versus F5’s BIG-IP 3400 test results:
- - Offers 4.4X better price/performance at Layer 4
- - Delivers 13.8X better price/performance at Layer 7
- - Achieves 5.9X better transaction rate and aggregate throughput at Layer 7
- - Offers better price/performance for SSL without additional licensing
“We tested A10 Networks’ high-end AX 3200 using the same test methodologies as F5’s published performance report, and then tested A10’s entry-level AX 2100 versus the BIG-IP 3400 using the same test methodologies again,” said Kevin Tolly, president/CEO /founder of The Tolly Group. “After certifying the test environment and performing the evaluations, the results showed that A10’s AX 3200 delivers outstanding performance in a cost-effective platform and the AX 2100 delivers significantly better price/performance at Layer 4, Layer 7 and SSL than the BIG-IP 3400.”
A10 Networks’ AX Series family helps enterprises of all sizes and ISPs build secure, high availability application server farms. Key features within the AX Series include:
- - Revolutionary Advanced Core Operating System (ACOS)
- - Modern multi-core CPU architecture
- - Support for IPv4 and IPv6
- - aRule™ advanced scripting language for flexible traffic management
- - Industry’s best SSL and Layer 4-7 price/performance

“The AX Series delivers the best technology and value in the Application Delivery Controller market by offering customers over twice the performance at less than half the cost of incumbents’ solutions,” said Lee Chen, president and CEO of A10 Networks. “Any enterprises conducting business over the Internet can leverage the AX Series to ensure that their applications and servers are always performing as desired – today in the future.”
Advanced Core Operating System (ACOS): Multi-core CPU Architecture The Advanced Core Operating System (ACOS) – built by A10’s team of distinctive engineers with high performance L2-3, L4-7 and super-computing expertise – is the distinguishing technology that makes the AX Series stand out in the application delivery controller market. A10’s AX Series with ACOS includes an optimized multi-CPU architecture, built from the ground up. It has maximum per-CPU independence with near zero interference among CPUs. By evenly distributing application traffic to the system’s processors, ACOS eliminates performance bottlenecks caused by unevenly loaded processors – allowing applications to perform as desired, especially during peak usage conditions.
We look forward to bringing you innovative vendors and technology as we test and implement them with our customers world-wide. If you would like to see an introductory WebEx of A10’s technology, we would be happy to schedule that for you. We could also arrange an on-site meeting if that would be preferred. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of any assistance to your load-balancing project at the below numbers. Let us know how best to accommodate you.
